Dhokla can be eaten for breakfast, as a main course, as a side dish, or as a snack. It is Gujarati dish can be prepared at home with in 20 min. So this can be made with fermented batter. So i thought it to make with Idly batter in a South Indian style. Generally Idly Dhokla is also same as Dhokla but prepared using left over Idly batter. Many of us get tired of eating idly's for 2-3 days, but why not you try this recipe other than Idly. Which is easy to make and is very tasty. We can have the Gujarati food in a South Indian Style. Let start with Ingredients .
Soda - pinch ( As the batter is already fermented we use very less Soda)
Salt - As per taste
Sugar - 1/2 spoon
Ginger green chilly paste - 1 spoon
Lemon - 1 1/2 spoons
Oil - 1 spoon
Mustard Seeds - 1 spoon
Sesame Seeds - 2 spoons
Green chilies- 2
Coriander Leaves - As per taste
Asafoetida - Pinch
Ingredients :
For Batter :
Idly Batter - 1 CupSoda - pinch ( As the batter is already fermented we use very less Soda)
Salt - As per taste
Sugar - 1/2 spoon
Ginger green chilly paste - 1 spoon
Lemon - 1 1/2 spoons
Oil - 1 spoon
To Temper -
Oil - 3 spoonsMustard Seeds - 1 spoon
Sesame Seeds - 2 spoons
Green chilies- 2
Coriander Leaves - As per taste
Asafoetida - Pinch
Procedure :
Mix all the batter ingredients in a bowl. Now take a small bowl and grease it with all till the oil is evenly spread. Now pour the prepared batter in to the bowl and steam it in rice cooker for 12- 15 minutes.After 10-12 minutes, insert a knife or toothpick into dhokla and check if it comes out clean. If it does, then it is ready otherwise cook 2-3 minutes more.Takeout plates from steamer and let them cool for few minutes.Now make the bowl upside down on to plate so that it comes out neatly.
Heat 2 tablespoons oil in a small pan or tempering pan. Add mustard seeds and asafoetida. When seeds begin to crackle, add sesame seeds, green chillies, saute them for few seconds,
pour it over Idly Dhokla and toss gently until each dhokla is coated well with tempering. Garnish with Coriander leaves.Now cut the fluffy Idly Dhokla into small squares using knife. Serve hot with Green chutney.
