Gunta Ponganalu

This is Famous tiffin in South India. The name suits it because of the pan used for this having hallow holes which is to be filled with batter. So lets have the Ingredients below.




Ingredients :

Urad Dal - 1 cup
Raw Rice - 3 cups
Green Chilies - 4
Bengal Gram -  5 Spoons
Onions -  chopped finely 1/2 cup
Salt -  As per the taste


Temper :

Mustard seeds - 1 spoon
cumin seeds - 1 spoon
Turmeric - optional


Procedure :

Soak Urad Dal and Rice over night. Wash them and make in consistency of Dosa batter. Now take 1/2 cup of batter and mix it with 1 glass of water in a bowl. Now soak the onions, green Chilies, Bengal Gram in this for 6-7 hours. Let the remaining batter also ferment for 6 - 7 Hours.  Next day take 1 spoon of oil in a pan and temper it and add the soaked onions,chilies and bengal gram in that and let it cook for 5 min. Now mix this in the fermented batter and add salt. Now take the Kadai ( Specially , designed for this ) pour 1/2 spoon of oil every portion and pour the prepared batter in each portion equally. close it with lid. let it get cooked one side till light brown and then take the lid and turn every ponganalu to other side and let it get cooked till golden brown. Finally Take them out and Serve with Coconut Chutney.
